Mogotsi shooting sparks doubts over hit attempt

Police are investigating whether North West entrepreneur Oupa Mogotsi staged an apparent attack after gunfire struck his vehicle in Vosloorus during the evening of November 3. Authorities recovered a Chevrolet sedan pierced by approximately 11 bullets, yet investigators found no blood evidence despite the extensive damage. Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed officers are examining whether the businessman orchestrated the incident and could face charges for obstructing justice if evidence supports that theory.

Mogotsi has not filed an attempted murder complaint at Ekurhuleni police headquarters and reportedly declined to surrender electronic devices for forensic examination. The businessman gained prominence through testimony at corruption inquiries examining police department misconduct, where witnesses described his connections to high-ranking law enforcement figures. Authorities raided his business locations in October as part of ongoing graft probes.

Mathe said officials are waiting for Mogotsi to provide a formal statement about his whereabouts and destination when the shooting occurred. The bullet-damaged automobile was found by local officers, who continue gathering evidence about the mysterious episode.
