Police seize devices from Mogotsi in fraud, murder probes

South African authorities executed a court-ordered search on businessman Brown Mogotsi during a Johannesburg meeting with his legal representatives on November 5, 2025. Police seized electronic equipment as part of an active fraud, corruption, and obstruction of justice investigation. Detectives also questioned Mogotsi that day regarding a separate attempted murder probe connected to a November 4 vehicle shooting in Vosloorus. Officials provided few specifics, citing ongoing inquiries.

Mogotsi survived the ambush unharmed, though his car suffered multiple bullet impacts. Authorities are analyzing the vehicle and reviewing witness accounts. Police warned Mogotsi might face penalties if the incident proves fabricated. The businessman, 64, maintains ties to African National Congress figures and claims knowledge of criminal networks involving officials. He has reported safety concerns while cooperating with commissions examining political violence and tender fraud. No arrests have occurred yet in either case.
