A mother says her son, Nikolay Aleksiev, got beaten by cops during a protest in Sofia and was locked up without proper cause. Desislava Aleksieva told reporters that Nikolai had to stitch up his own head at a hospital after the violence, and he went back to the demonstration before getting arrested with random strangers he didn't even know. The dude spent a day in holding, then got moved to a detention center with two other guys.
Aleksieva claims the authorities slapped everyone with identical charges and blocked her lawyer from visiting for nearly two hours. Her son told legal reps that officers kept hitting him in custody to force a confession about some pirate story, and she says cops only backed off when someone warned them about nearby cameras. The mom says she personally witnessed police tying female detainees to benches for entire days at the Fifth District station.
She called out Minister Daniel Mitov for lying about the treatment and asked if he could even sleep at night knowing what went down.
