New Law School Takes Shape in Kwekwe.
The Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa Law School at Midlands State University will open its doors this August. The school sits on land given by the Kwekwe City Council.
More than 300 workers are pushing ahead with the building. The materials needed are all present in the work area. Engineers from Masvingo Polytechnic College have started putting roofs on parts of the building.
The school aims to teach over 1,000 students and will house classes in law, farming, and building design. This marks another step in MSU's growth, adding to its places of learning in Gweru, Zvishavane, and Harare.
Dr Gift Manyatera, who leads building work at MSU, said the school will stand on 220 acres. The new building will have teaching rooms, practice courts, books, student housing, eating areas, and a health center. Workers began building in 2023.
"This will be among the best law schools in Africa," Dr Manyatera said. He pointed out that MSU's law teaching has been ranked first in Africa. The school bears President Mnangagwa's name to mark his work in making Zimbabwe's laws better.
The main building is more than half done, and money from the government is coming in to help finish the work. Dr Manyatera said they plan to start teaching basic law classes and higher learning programs when the school opens.
Kwekwe's mayor, Albert Zinhanga, sees good things ahead for his city. The school will bring more money through water use and city fees, and he thinks new shops and businesses will come to serve it.
The new school is part of MSU's plan to spread learning across many cities. This fits with the country's push for teaching based on its past and present needs.
The building rises where trees once stood. It will serve as a sign of growth in Zimbabwe's law teaching. The school plans to draw bright minds from all parts of the country and beyond.
