Mtanda pushes NHIF sign-up for Mwanza students

Mwanza Regional Commissioner Said Mtanda has mandated that administrators of higher education and technical training centers across the region guarantee enrollment of all incoming students in the National Health Insurance Fund medical coverage program. Speaking at yesterday's working session with leadership from 42 educational facilities, Mtanda emphasized that broad participation ensures service quality while preventing system strain from concentrated illness among limited membership populations.

The commissioner instructed NHIF to enhance registration procedures through coordination with the National Identification Authority to resolve enrollment delays, while requiring institutions to submit quarterly compliance updates to both the insurance fund and regional government offices under Universal Health Insurance Act provisions. NHIF Mwanza Regional Manager Jarlath Nshashu explained that the gathering focused on optimizing registration processes for the Student Health Package launched in 2009, which provides annual coverage at 50,400 shillings per learner.
