MTN Nigeria splurges ₦3B in youth data gold rush

MTN Nigeria throws massive cash at training young tech workers across the country. The phone company pumps three billion naira into a government program that teaches digital skills. Over 90,000 students already learned coding and computer tricks through this partnership. The company wants Nigeria to become a powerhouse for technology talent around the world. Their money helps students who cannot afford expensive computer classes.

Students receive free internet data and special learning computers called Raspberry Pi kits. About 3,500 young people got these mini computers to practice coding at school. The program covers hot topics like artificial intelligence and cybersecurity that companies desperately need. MTN already spent 1.45 billion naira on actual training costs. Another 1.5 billion went toward providing internet access for learners.

The government minister calls this partnership vital for building Nigeria's digital future. Over 1.8 million people applied to join these tech training courses. The program plans to create half a million new jobs within three years. MTN executives believe digital skills will boost the entire economy. They want to turn Nigeria into a major supplier of tech workers for global companies.
