Mubarak teams up with youth to fight market fires

Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak plans to fight market fires by having teams watch shopping areas day and night. His new program puts fire crews directly where they can spot problems quickly and jump into action right away.

The Interior Ministry joined forces with Youth Development officials to recruit young workers from employment programs into fire safety. These recruits will learn special skills for stopping fires before they spread and helping during emergencies at busy markets.

Recent blazes destroyed several important shopping centers nationwide, including part of the Blue Light area in downtown Kumasi. These disasters pushed the government to create better protection systems for businesses and shoppers.

Mubarak explained that they need fire teams stationed at every market across the country. Regular firefighter numbers fall short of this widespread coverage. He talked with Youth Development leaders about training program participants in basic firefighting techniques.

These trained youth workers will partner with professional fire officers to keep markets under watch twenty-four hours a day. When fires start, they can begin fighting flames immediately as they contact main fire departments for backup. Mubarak called this approach necessary teamwork between different government branches.
