Mugabe's son Chatunga accused of leading wild AK-47 attack on guard

A security guard remains in critical condition after a brutal attack at a Zimbabwe gold mine near Mazowe. Bellarmine Chatunga, son of former President Robert Mugabe, allegedly led the Wednesday afternoon assault with several armed men carrying AK-47 rifles. The group stormed the Ultimate Mining site next to Grace Mugabe's property. Chatunga accused the security team of permitting illegal gold miners onto Mugabe family land. Workers described a terrifying scene as gunmen threatened staff members.

Three employees suffered serious injuries during the violent confrontation. Medical reports show victims sustained broken skulls, ribs, cheekbones and limbs. A supervisor was shot when a weapon fired accidentally as he tried to stop the violence. The injured guards were dragged 200 meters into the Mugabe compound where attackers beat them with wooden logs and metal bars. Doctors at Parirenyatwa Hospital warn some injuries may cause permanent damage.

Elvis Bvumbwe, one of the security guards, received multiple fractures and severe bruising. Mine General Manager Joel Mushoriwa said medical costs have already reached $2,000. Staff members remain traumatized and fearful after the attack. Police arrived and rushed bleeding victims to the hospital due to their serious condition. Chatunga allegedly threatened local officers with job loss if President Mnangagwa learned about any arrest.

The suspect left the police station without facing detention despite the serious charges. Mazowe Police Station recorded the case under Report Number 6347367. Police spokesperson Paul Nyathi did not respond to requests for comment about the incident.
