Muhoozi, Italian officials explore defence ties in Entebbe

Ugandan military officials discussed defense collaboration with Italian representatives during a Monday gathering at Special Forces Command headquarters in Entebbe. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba hosted Italian Ambassador Mauro Massoni and Claudio Sabatino from Leonardo Aircraft Division to explore cooperation opportunities in aerospace technology and equipment upgrades.

Leonardo operates as a major Italian aerospace firm that has provided aircraft services across multiple African nations. The discussions referenced a 2020 memorandum establishing the framework for military partnership between the two countries.

Senior air force personnel attended the session alongside Deputy Ambassador Giulio Michele Girardelli and Leonardo's East Africa Manager Romina Grasso. Uganda has been expanding its aviation capabilities through international partnerships, acquiring advanced aircraft and surveillance systems to support regional security operations.
