Muhoozi warns politicians, UPDF ready to quell election unrest

Uganda's top military guy, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, told politicians to chill out ahead of the 2026 elections or security forces will crack down hard on anyone trying to stir up chaos. He made the threat while promoting a bunch of officers at the defense ministry headquarters in Mbuya, saying the armed forces consider keeping peace a mandatory job that nobody gets to mess with.

Muhoozi said voters should cast ballots and bounce from polling stations instead of hanging around to protect their votes, since observers and media will handle transparency. He warned that reactionary groups looking to exploit the election season will get dealt with using every legal tool available.

The general also name-dropped ongoing regional missions against ADF rebels in Congo and Al-Shabaab in Somalia while reminding newly promoted officers that their ranks come with heavier expectations for integrity and discipline.
