Mukweli cleared in Post Bank SAGE commission case

Stephen Mukweli walked away from all charges after the Anti-Corruption Court ruled prosecutors never proved he did anything criminal when Post Bank paid out over 292 million shillings in commissions during the SAGE project bid. Justice Jane Okuo Kajuga said the evidence showed the bank openly discussed hiring businessman Jude Muhereza Kachoboye as a commission agent through emails and committee meetings, and there was nothing sketchy about the arrangement.

The court pointed out that Post Bank actually made over 8 billion shillings from the SAGE program by 2019, which crushed any argument that the commission payment caused financial loss. Kajuga said prosecutors failed to show fraudulent intent or prove the accused conspired to rip off the bank or government. Five other officials who got charged alongside Mukweli also got acquitted, and the court ordered all bail money returned.
