Mumba folds with Chakwera, DPP's Mutharika set for Malawi power handover

Vitumbiko Mumba and President Lazarus Chakwera accepted electoral defeat after initially challenging the results. The running mate published a Facebook message urging the Malawi Congress Party to learn from previous mistakes. He expressed continued loyalty to Chakwera despite the loss. Mumba acknowledged Arthur Peter Mutharika and the Democratic Progressive Party as the likely winners. The candidates previously alleged vote manipulation through press conferences with party officials.

Mumba praised his leader's character and promised support during the transition period. He committed to backing Chakwera's family members in future political endeavors. The concession marks a reversal from earlier claims about electoral fraud. Chakwera recognized his vote totals would not surpass Mutharika's national performance. The Malawi Electoral Commission has not announced official results for the presidential race.
