Muntu vows to rescue the Uganda tea sector

Alliance for National Transformation presidential candidate Mugisha Muntu promised to rebuild the tea industry if voters elect him in the upcoming national polls. The retired major general told supporters in Kyenjojo district on Friday that Ugandan tea should fetch prices comparable to those of products from Kenya and Rwanda at East African auctions. He blamed the government for ignoring farmers while factories face payment delays and outdated equipment that force growers to quit the sector.

Muntu called corruption the main barrier to progress and said officials protect wrongdoers while money meant for roads, teachers and hospitals disappears. He pledged transparent leadership that supports agriculture and balanced growth. Residents asked him to cut business taxes, fix market roads, improve maternal care and create jobs for young people. The former army commander began his western region campaign tour in Kyegegwa district.
