Murkomen flexes drones and new toys as Wajir sweats al-Shabaab raids

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen announced major government investments in advanced security technology to combat al-Shabaab militants. The official spoke to journalists in Wajir during his regional security engagement tour on Tuesday. Kenya has enhanced its defense capabilities through upgraded vehicles resistant to improvised explosive devices, expanded aerial operations, drone surveillance, and improved multi-agency cooperation. These technological advances have strengthened the nation's capacity to counter cross-border terrorist threats effectively. Additional support provides police with enhanced vehicles, new stations, and water facilities.

Murkomen connected regional insecurity with economic underdevelopment, particularly affecting arid and semi-arid counties. The 749-kilometer Isiolo-Mandera highway project will significantly reduce militant activities and improve emergency response times. Government security escorts protect construction crews to ensure project completion on schedule. Officials continue investigating the July disappearance of Wajir Huduma Centre manager Hussain Abdirahman Mohamed. The Inspector General develops new deployment policies to address concerns about officers serving extended periods in operational zones.
