Museveni says youth uprisings rooted in lack of wealth plan, unity key

President Yoweri Museveni blamed youth protests across Africa on poor economic planning during a speech to senior military officers. He spoke at the Senior Command and Staff College in Kimaka where 52 officers from seven countries attended training. Museveni said African leaders have failed to create wealth and use natural resources properly. The president called for Pan-African economic unity as the answer to unrest and poverty. He warned that current donor-driven policies cannot solve the continent's problems.

A Kenyan officer asked about Generation Z uprisings spreading across Africa. Museveni responded that nations must shift to homegrown economic strategies focused on wealth creation. He cited Uganda's progress from having only 4 percent of people in the money economy at independence to 67 percent today. The president stressed that every household must participate in productive activities to build prosperity. He said people need to join the money economy with careful planning and calculation.

Museveni identified four important economic areas for African development. He listed commercial farming, manufacturing, services like tourism, and information technology as key sectors. The president warned that Africa must stop selling raw materials to other countries. He argued that processing resources locally would create jobs and build industries. Museveni said young protesters should demand East African integration instead of fighting over local issues.

The president told military leaders that fragmented markets prevent African growth. He emphasized that Uganda's small local market cannot support large-scale production. Museveni concluded that producing and selling goods offers the path to peace and prosperity across Africa.
