A healthcare worker from Mutare faces fraud charges after allegedly collecting $15,000 from an insurance provider by creating policies for three people who had already died.
Authorities arrested Shamiso Esinathi Nyamundanda, a 40-year-old nurse working at Bamba Rural Health Clinic under the Ministry of Health and Child Care, following an investigation by Zimnat Life Assurance. Court documents indicate she opened policies for Damsey Nhau, Herbert Mariwati and Jane Dune between August 2022 and July 2025, claiming family connections to secure $5,000 payouts for each person. The payments went to her Nedbank account.
A Zimnat employee detected matching signatures on claim documents that led investigators to link Nyamundanda to the fraudulent filings. Magistrate Ruth Moyo granted $300 bail and scheduled the next hearing for December 9. Prosecutors noted that none of the money has been returned.
