Mutare Passport Centre Set and More on the Way

The Mutare e-passport center has finished construction and will open to the public soon. Workers just need to connect the electricity before people can start using it. The government had planned to finish this center early in the year, but money problems pushed back the opening date, according to Registrar-General Henry Machiri.

Zimbabwe wants to build more passport centers in Masvingo and Beitbridge when money becomes available. Officials have already started work on an international passport office in Zambia and expect to make big progress by May. The government opened a similar center at the Zimbabwe consulate in Johannesburg, South Africa, last year.

Plans also include new passport offices in London and New York to help Zimbabweans living abroad. The 2025 national budget gave money to fix up major embassy buildings in several countries, including renovations for diplomatic offices in London, Nigeria, and Germany. Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube said these improvements will boost staff morale and help them serve people better.

Since January 2022, the government has set up fourteen passport offices across Zimbabwe. These locations have issued more than 100,000 electronic passports to citizens. These new centers make it easier for Zimbabweans everywhere to get official travel documents without traveling far. The government continues working to bring passport services closer to where people live, both inside and outside the country.
