Mutashu and CZR drag Chikunguru into the Harare fake electronics scandal

Zimbabwe retailers begged police to crack down on fake phone sellers flooding the country. The scammers operate openly in busy city centers during the day and sell bogus electronics to unsuspecting buyers. Confederation of Zimbabwe Retailers president Dr Denford Mutashu fired off a letter to Harare police chief Maxwell Chikunguru about the crisis. He warned that crooked dealers were cheating customers and destroying honest businesses across the nation. The group demanded urgent action to stop the growing menace.

Fake phone shops trick people into buying broken gadgets that die within days of purchase. The sellers refuse refunds and become nasty when customers complain about defective products. These crooks sell used phones as brand new devices and dodge taxes by refusing to give receipts. Many operate without proper licenses or registered business names making them impossible to track down. Victims get stuck with useless phones and no way to get their money back.

Honest retailers cannot compete with criminals selling cheap knockoff goods to bargain hunters. The government loses millions in tax revenue while scammers pocket cash payments from naive shoppers. Dr Mutashu wants police and regulators to raid suspect stores and seize all counterfeit merchandise. He called for a special task force to shut down illegal operations and prosecute the crooks under consumer protection laws. The retailers group offered to help authorities identify problem shops and coordinate enforcement raids.
