Mutharika fires back on high prices and helps out

Arthur Peter Mutharika, former Malawi president and Democratic Progressive Party leader, attacked the current administration for blaming his party when prices go up. He denied claims that DPP teams up with Asian business owners to raise prices on purpose. Mutharika pushed President Lazarus Chakwera to fix economic problems rather than blame others. He said leaders must tackle issues directly instead of finding scapegoats for their failures.

Mutharika vowed to improve the lives of all Malawians if voters elected him president again on September 16. He made these comments Monday during his visit to Balaka, where he gave food to 400 Muslim families celebrating Eid Al-Fitr. The chairperson of the Muslim Association of Malawi-Balaka Chapter, Sheikh Ishmael Ntinko, praised the former president for his help. Sheikh Ntinko added that the food came exactly when needed, just as Muslims finished their Ramadhan observances.
