MP Mutuse Fires Back On Ruto IEBC Picks

Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse defended President Ruto against critics of his electoral commission picks. He stated that the electoral body just runs voting and announces results, but citizens decide who wins. Opposition leaders had questioned the President about his new IEBC commissioner choices. Mutuse reminded everyone that the selection started with talks between political parties. The panel included people from both the government and the opposition.

The President chose Erastus Edung Ethekon from Turkana County to lead the commission. Mutuse pointed out that Ruto selected names only from the official list provided by the selection team. He mentioned that many areas lack leaders because elections cannot happen without commissioners. These areas have no one speaking for them in Parliament about important matters. Mutuse said those against filling these positions should think about citizens left without representation.

The new commissioner list also includes Ann Nderitu, lawyer Moses Alutalala Mukhwana, former university head Francis Aduol, Mary Karen Sorobit, Hassan Noor Hassan, and Fahima Araphat Abdallah. The selection panel reviewed 116 candidates before making its recommendations. They picked two possible chairperson candidates and nine-member candidates for consideration.
