Mutharika gets huge lead over Chakwera in Mangochi

Arthur Peter Mutharika leads Malawi's presidential race with 236,657 votes across eleven Mangochi constituencies. The Democratic Progressive Party candidate maintains a commanding advantage over his closest rival. Lazarus Chakwera from the Malawi Congress Party trails significantly with 10,116 votes. Atupele Muluzi of the United Democratic Front secured 20,804 votes while Joyce Banda of the People's Party received 3,022 votes.

Election officials await results from two remaining constituencies before declaring final Mangochi tallies. The district serves as a traditional stronghold for the Democratic Progressive Party. Mutharika's performance mirrors historical voting patterns that favor his party in the Eastern Region. The Malawi Electoral Commission continues compiling results from districts nationwide.

These preliminary figures reflect broader regional political divisions across the country. Mangochi voters demonstrate strong loyalty to Mutharika despite challenges from opposition candidates. The substantial margin suggests the Democratic Progressive Party retains firm control over this key electoral district.
