Muthusamy, Jansen power South Africa to massive total

South Africa posted 489 all out against India in Guwahati, with Senuran Muthusamy registering his maiden Test century and Marco Jansen contributing a destructive 93. The left-handed Muthusamy reached three figures off 192 deliveries before falling shortly after the milestone, while Jansen's aggressive 91-ball knock featured 13 boundaries before Kuldeep Yadav ended his stay at the crease. Their eighth-wicket partnership yielded 97 runs and extended the visitors' advantage at India's newest Test venue.

Jansen equaled the record for most sixes in a Test innings against India with seven maximums, matching Shahid Afridi's 2006 achievement. Kyle Verreynne added 45 before Ravindra Jadeja had him stumped, breaking an 88-run stand. Kuldeep claimed four wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Jadeja took two apiece.

India reached nine without loss when bad light halted proceedings, trailing by 480 runs. The Proteas seek their first series triumph on Indian soil in a quarter-century after winning the opener.
