Mutoko Girls Snatch Big Bucks from Sista2Sista

Young women in Mutoko district receive life skills through the Sista2Sista program run by the National AIDS Council. The program targets girls aged 15 to 24 who face economic challenges and health risks. These participants learn farming, poultry raising, baking and hairdressing to earn money. The initiative helps prevent HIV infections and teenage pregnancies that force girls to leave school.

National AIDS Council officials visited wards 9 and 16 yesterday to check on program participants. About 50 people work together on income projects across two groups in ward 16. Plan International partners with the council to provide training in different wards. Dr Wilfred Dube manages the program for Mashonaland East province.

The program addresses serious problems affecting vulnerable girls in local communities. Many young women become pregnant and quit their education without proper support. Participants receive lessons about staying healthy and avoiding dangerous situations. They also develop practical skills that create earning opportunities.

Brenda Manyengera raises chickens with her group members after joining the program. She struggled to find work before receiving this training and support. The initiative gave her hope when she felt discouraged about her future. She credits the National AIDS Council for changing her life through new opportunities.
