MWOS Triumph Over CAPS United to Reclaim Top Spot in League

MWOS defeated CAPS United 2-1 at Ngoni Stadium to reclaim the top spot in Zimbabwe's premier soccer league. The newcomer team fell behind early when Mabiala Bissila scored for the visitors within 20 minutes. Arthur Banda equalized before halftime with a close-range effort after CAPS United defenders failed to clear a loose ball. Innocent Zambezi headed home the winner nine minutes into the second half from a corner kick. CAPS United goalkeeper Harmony Nare missed the cross that allowed Zambezi to score against his former club.

The home team remained unbeaten through 16 matches and moved back to first place with 34 points. CAPS United had won their previous two games before this setback. Eric Manokore missed a late penalty chance that could have earned his team a draw. The former captain sent his spot kick high over the crossbar with eight minutes remaining.

Coach Lloyd Mutasa praised his players for staying calm after falling behind at their home ground. CAPS United manager Ian Bakala blamed poor concentration for both goals his team conceded. MWOS had briefly lost the league lead to Simba Bhora earlier this week. The victory restored their position at the summit of the 18-team table.
