Bakala Rockets to Caps United Top Job in 24 Hours

Caps United named Ian Bakala their head coach on Thursday. The 45-year-old reportedly agreed to a three-year contract with the Zimbabwean soccer club. Fans see his rise as record-breaking since officials just appointed him assistant coach on Monday before promoting him to the top job.

Bakala last led the Zambia Under-17 national team. He coached the young squad to the CAF U17 African Cup of Nations quarterfinals, earning them a spot at the upcoming World Cup in Qatar. His recent club experience saw mixed results with Kitwe powerhouse Nkana firing him early this season after several losses.

He briefly managed Forest Rangers before taking the youth national team to Morocco for their tournament. Forest Rangers lost their league standing after he left. Bakala already knows Caps United well, having played for them as a midfielder about twenty years ago.
