Myanmar, China energy firms eye offshore gas, pipeline upgrades

Myanmar's energy minister met with Chinese oil executives in Beijing to discuss offshore exploration partnerships and pipeline projects. Union Minister U Ko Ko Lwin traveled to China on Monday and Tuesday for talks with leaders from state petroleum companies about developing natural gas fields and expanding refinery capacity. The meetings covered workforce training programs, investment opportunities, and security measures for existing infrastructure that runs through Myanmar territory.

Officials from China National Petroleum Corporation and China Oilfield Services Limited agreed to accelerate drilling operations in promising maritime zones. Discussions addressed plans to maximize throughput on the Southeast Asia gas pipeline and upgrade older onshore systems to current industry standards. The Myanmar delegation toured a geophysical services firm to examine seismic technology used to locate hydrocarbon deposits beneath the ocean floor.
