Nairobi to close roads for marathon on Sunday

Police will close portions of Nairobi roads from midnight on Saturday through 2 p.m. on Sunday for the Standard Chartered Marathon. The Nairobi Southern Bypass between Ole Sereni Interchange and Kikuyu Town will remain shut to vehicles throughout the event.

Authorities directed drivers from Mombasa Road toward Kikuyu to take Uhuru Highway and Waiyaki Way instead. Motorists traveling from Dagoretti South should use Dagoretti Road, while those between Lang'ata and Dagoretti South must drive through Karen via Lang'ata Road.

Officers warned they would act against traffic violators and urged cooperation with posted personnel. The marathon draws thousands of athletes and spectators annually to Kenya's capital.

Wheelchair racers begin at 5:45 a.m., followed by full marathoners at 6 a.m., half marathoners at 7:20 a.m., 10-kilometer participants at 9 a.m. and five-kilometer runners at 10 a.m. on Sunday.
