Three Chitungwiza women escaped naked from a traditional healer's mountain shrine after sensing danger. Pamela Bako, Shillah Mabvudzi and Talent visited Sekuru Sinaro for spiritual cleansing ceremonies. The sangoma gave them herbs to drink and bathe with during the ritual. Two male assistants remained at the shrine after Sekuru Sinaro drove away. Pamela overheard the men plotting to sexually assault the visiting women.
Pamela carried her baby and refused to spend the night at the shrine location. One assistant told her the sangoma had money to pay her rent. The women ran through dark forest paths around 7pm to escape harm. Pamela reached the main road and found transport back to Harare suburbs. She arrived home at 11pm feeling traumatized from the frightening experience.
Shillah found shelter at Apostle Blessed Mugwambeni's house after her escape. The family first suspected witchcraft because they had been praying against evil spirits. Police officers refused to help because no female staff worked that night. The women left their cellphones behind during the panicked flight. Sekuru Sinaro claimed they fled after seeing disturbing visions during mirror ceremonies.
