Three women from Chitungwiza ran away naked from a traditional healer's place on Saturday. Pamela Bako, Shillah Mabvudzi and Talent went to Sekuru Sinaro for spiritual cleansing. The traditional healer gave them herbs that made them feel dizzy and confused. Two men working with the healer stayed behind after Sekuru left the mountain shrine. The women became scared when they heard the men planning bad things.
Pamela escaped first and told reporters the men wanted to force them to stay overnight. She carried her baby during the frightening experience and ran through the forest to find help. The woman reached the main road around 7pm and caught transport back to Harare. She arrived home in Budiriro suburb at 11pm feeling grateful to her ancestors for protection. Pamela said she regretted visiting the traditional healer because of her terrible experience.
Shillah ran to a church leader's house where Apostle Blessed Mugwambeni helped her. The family first thought she might be a witch because she appeared half-naked at night. They gave her clothes and took her to the police station for help. Male officers refused to help because no female police worked that shift. The church family provided shelter and support for the frightened woman.
Sekuru Sinaro confirmed the incident happened but blamed the women's reaction on spiritual visions. He said two women returned the next morning to collect their belongings. The traditional healer claimed all three suffered from nightmares about intimate encounters. Police eventually returned the women's mobile phones after the complaint was filed. The incident shows dangers some people face when seeking traditional healing services.
