Namibia Task Force Set to Deliver Roadmap for Free Tertiary Education

Namibia's education ministry moves forward with plans for free college and university costs. Officials created a team of 23 experts last week to develop the policy. The group has members from major schools like the University of Namibia and other education organizations. Ministry leaders say they will meet their deadline to present a complete plan to government officials. The team must figure out how to pay for the program.

Education director Erastus Haitengela says the expert team will study different ways to fund free education. The government has not decided which methods to use for paying these costs. Student loan agency NSFAF may help with the funding plan. The team will look at all money options and suggest the best approach. Government leaders will make the final decision about funding methods.

The expert team plans to talk with many groups about the free education policy. Student organizations and parent groups will share their thoughts on the plan. Community groups and other citizens can also give their opinions. Ministry officials believe this input will make the policy stronger and more accepted. The team must listen to everyone who cares about education costs.

Team members will give weekly reports to the ministry about their progress. Officials want to watch the work closely to make sure everything stays on track. The president announced earlier that fees must fall at government-run colleges and universities. The expert team focuses on these public schools first. This policy change could be the most important education reform ever made.
