Namutamba pleads for calm Christmas, unity ahead of 2026 polls

A government minister is pushing for a calm holiday and election season. Princess Hellen Namutamba, the Tourism and Heritage Minister for the Busoga region, told people to celebrate Christmas peacefully and stay united. She also happens to be part of the team mobilizing support for President Yoweri Museveni. In a briefing, she asked citizens to behave responsibly, promote tolerance, and take pride in the country.

With the national vote approaching, she reminded everyone that peace is more important than political conflict, advising voters to stay wise and avoid violence. Namutamba specifically called on parents to steer young people away from hateful speech, suggesting sports and church events as better holiday activities instead. She passed along season's greetings from senior official Rebecca Kadaga, too, stressing that government development work should continue smoothly.

Wearing her tourism hat, the minister also suggested a bit of local travel. She encouraged families to visit heritage sites within Busoga during the break, framing it as a way to support domestic tourism and local businesses. She wrapped up with wishes for a happy and peaceful new year.
