NBS teller and guard nabbed as US$58K vanishes in heist

Authorities arrested two suspects for stealing US$58,417 from National Building Society between September 5 and 10, 2025. Smith Mativenga Chigwawa, age 45, worked as a bank teller while Stalin Rundora, age 30, served as security guard at Atharvan Investment. Security Manager Michael Smoko detected suspicious activity on the company account and contacted the firm directly. The investigation revealed unauthorized withdrawals that the business never approved or received.

Detectives from Commercial Crimes Division apprehended both men on September 21, 2025. Chigwawa admitted guilt during questioning and helped recover US$51,420 of the stolen funds. Investigators returned the money to the bank but US$6,997 remains missing. The court remanded both suspects until their next hearing on October 23, 2025.
