NCP storms Agargaon EC in showdown over boat and shapla symbols

The National Citizen Party stormed Election Commission headquarters demanding officials yank the boat symbol from their approved list. Party bigwigs argued the Awami League lost its registration after getting suspended by authorities. Five NCP leaders cornered Chief Election Commissioner A M M Nasir Uddin during their heated meeting at Agargaon offices. The delegation insisted commissioners had no legal grounds for keeping the boat symbol active. Election officials listened as NCP representatives pushed their case about symbol removal.

NCP chiefs pressed hard for the shapla water lily symbol while dismissing claims about national emblem conflicts. Party lawyer Zahirul Islam Musa explained how the national emblem contains four different elements including paddy sheaves and stars. Political parties already claimed other parts of the emblem as their symbols according to the legal expert. The shapla stands alone as just one piece of the larger national design. NCP leaders warned they would fight any obstacles through political channels.

Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari blasted the current Election Commission structure as needing major overhaul before upcoming polls. The party submitted fresh applications back in June seeking three potential symbols with shapla topping their wish list. Commission officials proposed 115 electoral symbols for government review but left shapla off the approved roster. NCP representatives stressed they filed first for the water lily symbol and deserved priority consideration. The scales symbol got restored after another party regained registration status.
