Ncube says RBZ to add new high-value ZiG notes

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe will introduce higher-value Zimbabwe Gold banknotes and increase the amount of physical ZiG currency in circulation. Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube announced the plan, citing public demand for more accessible cash encountered during national budget consultations. He stated the government would implement this through the central bank to make the domestic currency more tangible for citizens.

The strategy includes issuing new, more durable, higher-denomination notes to improve public convenience. Minister Ncube emphasized that the monetary base expansion would be conducted prudently to protect the ZiG's stability. This measured approach aims to avoid past inflationary problems while supporting mandates for local currency use.
