NDC fires back as Bawumia concession drama ignites fury over election rules

Mustapha Gbande launched a fierce attack against Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia over his early defeat announcement. The NDC Deputy General Secretary appeared on Channel One TV and slammed the former NPP presidential candidate. He accused Bawumia of jumping ahead of the Electoral Commission during the 2024 election results. Gbande called the move both populist and dangerous for Ghana's democracy. He said Bawumia acted like he was the Electoral Commission himself.

The NDC official argued that candidates must wait for official declarations before giving up. He explained that real concessions happen after results come out, not before them. Gbande dismissed claims that Bawumia prevented chaos with his early announcement. He said the country was calm and people were happy about the NPP losing power. The temperature remained normal throughout the election period.

Gbande believes Bawumia orchestrated the whole thing to look like a great leader. He thinks the former Vice President wanted praise for doing something unnecessary and wrong. The NDC man said this behavior disrespected the Electoral Commission's constitutional role. He warned that such actions blur the lines between different institutions. Political showmanship could damage respect for Ghana's democratic system.

The criticism highlights growing tensions about how politicians handle election results. Some people praised Bawumia for his mature gesture that strengthened democratic values. Others like Gbande see it as a troubling precedent that breaks important rules. The debate continues about whether early concessions help or hurt Ghana's elections.
