Ndlovu, Tembo, Mapeza among candidates for Warriors job

Zimbabwe seeks a replacement for former national team manager Michael Nees, who was dismissed on Wednesday after a disappointing record of 2 wins in 16 matches. The German coach departed despite guiding the Warriors to qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Kaitano Tembo leads the list of potential successors after serving as an assistant coach in recent World Cup qualifiers. Other candidates under consideration range from local options Peter Ndlovu, Norman Mapeza, and Ian Gorowa to continental figures Kelvin Kaindu, Rhulani Mokwena, and Pitso Mosimane.

Zimbabwe Football Association president Nqobile Magwizi confirmed a committee is developing selection criteria for the position. The new manager will face immediate evaluation through friendlies against Qatar and Algeria in November before the continental tournament begins in December.
