Over 200 apply for Warriors head coach job

The Zimbabwe Football Association has received more than 200 applications for the vacant Warriors head coach position, including submissions from prominent international figures. The online portal closed on Thursday after a month-long recruitment window.

Among the applicants are Chris Hughton, former manager of Tottenham Hotspur and Ghana; Harry Redknapp, former Tottenham boss; Bruce Grobbelaar, a former goalkeeper of the Warriors; and Belgian coach Tom Saintfiet. Others reportedly in contention include Sam Allardyce, Egyptian coach Mohamed Fathi, Rwanda’s Adel Amrouche, and German tactician Winfried Schäfer, who previously served as Ghana’s technical director.

ZIFA required candidates to hold a CAF Pro or UEFA Pro License and have at least five years of experience managing national teams in Africa. The association seeks a qualified coach to lead Zimbabwe in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations preparations, including November friendlies against Algeria and Qatar.

ZIFA president Nqobile Magwizi said a decision is expected early next week, with an announcement likely Monday or Tuesday.
