Netanyahu gets booed as the UN walks out over Palestine

Delegates departed the United Nations General Assembly hall Friday as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed world leaders. The Israeli leader faced both applause and boos during his remarks. Netanyahu condemned recent Palestinian state recognition by France, Britain, Portugal, Australia and Canada.

The prime minister argued that Palestinian leaders reject coexistence with Israel and seek replacement rather than partnership. More than 150 nations have formally recognized Palestinian statehood. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas addressed the assembly Thursday through video connection.

Abbas reminded attendees that Palestinian authorities acknowledged Israeli sovereignty in 1988 and 1993. The Palestinian leader denounced the October 7 Hamas attacks while thanking nations supporting Palestinian independence. Both leaders presented conflicting narratives regarding the two-state solution framework.
