NetherRealm guts Sektor and Cyrax in a desperate MK1 hotfix

NetherRealm Studios reported that Mortal Kombat 1 achieved 6.2 million unit sales since September 2023, representing growth from the 5 million mark reached in January. Game Director Ed Boon announced these figures through social media while pledging continued efforts toward optimal game balance. The development team released a comprehensive hotfix addressing multiple fighter adjustments across the roster. Character modifications affected damage values, frame data, and move properties for fighters ranging from Ashrah to Sektor.

The latest patch altered combo scaling, recovery times, and attack properties for various combatants. Notable changes affected popular characters like Liu Kang, Rain, and Reptile alongside newer additions such as Omni-Man and Conan. Sales performance trails behind Mortal Kombat 11, which reached 15 million copies by October 2022 after three and a half years. Despite positive critical reception and an 8.5 rating from Wccftech, the current title faces challenges matching its predecessor's commercial success with approximately 8.8 million additional units needed.
