New Apex Legends Wildcard mode abandons core tactical gameplay

EA and Respawn Entertainment released gameplay footage for Apex Legends Season 26. The season launches across all platforms on August 5, 2025. Players receive access to Wildcard, a permanent game mode that transforms traditional battle royale mechanics.

Wildcard permits teams to select identical legends and removes tactical restrictions. The modified Kings Canyon features additional ziplines and launch pads for enhanced mobility. Players gain automatic revival opportunities before the final ring closes. Simplified looting systems accelerate the pace of combat encounters.

Season 26 introduces Elite weapons, beginning with the RE-45 pistol. Caustic and Bangalore receive significant ability improvements. Amps function as collectible passive enhancements for ranked and casual matches. Hop-up attachments permanently bind to specific weapon types rather than appearing as ground loot.

Ranked gameplay eliminates the Jumpmaster role through predetermined landing zones. The E-District map transitions from nighttime to daytime lighting. Complete patch notes arrive on August 4, detailing all mechanical adjustments and balance changes for the upcoming season.
