NFITU hails Modi's labour reforms as a historic worker victory

Indian labor union representatives have praised recent government employment reforms as transformative legislation that will improve conditions for hundreds of millions of workers. Dr Virat Jaiswal from the National Front of Indian Trade Unions characterized the regulatory overhaul as the most significant workforce policy shift since national independence.

The updated framework establishes guaranteed minimum compensation standards and extends social security protections to approximately 400 million people, extending coverage to gig economy participants for the first time. Women workers gain enhanced safeguards through mandated consent requirements for overnight assignments and employer accountability for security measures. Additional provisions establish premium overtime rates for hours beyond standard weekly limits and require complimentary medical screenings for employees over 40.

Union officials credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya for implementing standards they believe will position the nation among global leaders in employment regulation.
