NHAI installs QR code signboards on highways

The National Highways Authority of India announced on Friday that it will install QR code signboards along national highway stretches to improve commuter convenience. The vertical boards will display project details, including highway numbers, construction periods, and contact information for emergency services. Users can scan the codes to access data about nearby hospitals, petrol stations, restrooms, police stations, and toll plazas.

The authority plans to place the boards near rest areas, toll plazas, and highway entry points for maximum visibility. Officials stated the initiative will enhance road safety through better access to emergency information. The agency expects to generate Rs 35,000-40,000 crore in fiscal year 2026 if road assets are monetized on schedule. This figure represents an increase from Rs 24,399 crore collected in fiscal 2025, according to the ICRA ratings agency.
