NIB Arrests Oware Mensah in NSS Ghost Name Scandal

The National Intelligence Bureau grabbed former National Service Scheme deputy boss Gifty Oware-Mensah last Friday. They arrested her on March 7, 2025, and have refused to let her out on bail. People say officers took her somewhere secret. Her husband tried to visit, but guards turned him away.

A video appeared on February 4 showing Oware-Mensah walking through Kotoka International Airport. Many believed she had run away because the NIB was looking into her actions. According to several people familiar with the situation, she traveled to Morocco as head of the Management Committee for the female national football team.

She supposedly planned to fly back with the team and talk to investigators about what happened. The case involves her alleged role in a major scam at the National Service Scheme. Reports claim she helped send money to 81,885 fake service workers who never existed.

Everyone thought she would voluntarily meet with investigators soon. Her arrest raises new questions about how far this investigation might go. The authorities continue to investigate what might be one of the biggest payroll frauds in recent memory.
