Nigeria cut electricity exports to Niger Republic from 80 megawatts to 46 megawatts. Niger's Energy Minister Haoua Amadou said this reduction caused nationwide power production to fall between 30 and 50 percent. State power company Nigelec started planned outages across several regions, including the capital city Niamey. These cuts follow earlier complete supply suspensions that were part of ECOWAS sanctions after the July 2023 military coup removed President Mohamed Bazoum.
