Twenty Nigerian Technical Aid Corps volunteers began assignments across Gambian higher education institutions on Monday. Nigeria's government dispatched these professionals to strengthen academic capabilities at universities and quality assurance organizations throughout the West African nation. The deployment ceremony took place at the Nigerian High Commissioner's residence in Kanifing, with Minister Pierre Gomez attending. These specialists will assist the University of Education, the University of The Gambia, the Civil Service University, and the National Accreditation and Quality Assurance Authority.
Nigeria has operated this technical assistance program since 1987 as diplomatic outreach to African, Caribbean, and Pacific nations. Gambia joined the initiative through a 2009 bilateral agreement between the two governments. The Nigerian government funds all volunteer expenses during their two-year service periods. Officials select participants through comprehensive evaluation processes based on recipient country requirements and professional qualifications.
