Gambia Minister Thanks Nigeria for Education Boost

Gambia thanks Nigeria for helping its education system succeed. Professor Pierre Gomez spoke about this during his visit to the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps offices in Abuja. He said President Barrow is happy about how Nigerian Engineering Professors improved the University of Applied Science, Engineering, and Technology. Nkem Anyata-Lafia shared this news Thursday after speaking with NTAC leaders.

Nigerian professors changed education in Gambia by focusing on skills and business thinking. Their work helped student numbers jump from 47 to over 200 last school year. These teachers showed great skills during their service. They started new ideas for universities to support themselves instead of depending completely on government money. This fresh approach created better results for students.

Gambia recently started a new University of Education. The government asked Nigeria to assist with making this school excellent. Professor Gomez praised Nigerian volunteers for their amazing work. He described how these teachers brought energy to Gambian higher education. The professor traveled to Nigeria specifically to request additional help for training local teachers and school leaders.

The NTAC Director General Yusuf Buba Yakub promised continued support to meet Gambian educational needs. He explained that helping neighboring nations remains their main purpose. Yakub plans to start sending the requested assistance within weeks. He believes these actions will improve teaching and learning throughout Gambia for the next twenty years. Both countries expect long-term benefits from this partnership.
