Njie tells top secretaries they are to blame if Barrow fails

Cabinet boss AlieuNjie told top civil servants they hold the key to making government promises actually happen. The Secretary to the Cabinet delivered his message during a three-day retreat for Permanent Secretaries at the Sir DawdaKairabaJawara International Conference Center in Bijilo. He stressed that these officials serve as the crucial bridge between what politicians promise and what gets delivered to citizens. The retreat kicked off on Monday July 7 2025 with government leaders gathering to discuss national priorities. Njie explained that recent Cabinet meetings saw each Minister pledge five major goals tied to the National Development Agenda.

The Cabinet Secretary warned that achieving these targets depends heavily on how well Permanent Secretaries lead their departments and manage daily operations. He described them as accounting officers and policy leaders who carry enormous responsibility for turning political commitments into real results. The government has recognized their vital role by approving salary increases designed to boost morale and keep talented people from leaving. Njie emphasized that these pay rises send a clear signal about how much the administration values their contributions. He believes bringing people together and working as a team remains essential for achieving high performance across all government departments.
