Nkayi Festival brings beats, not bling, to villages

The #53 Nkayi Festival is firing up again for an eight-day run. This second edition aims to push local music, develop talent, and open doors for artists across Nkayi District. The event was created by musicians themselves, including Intombi Yabelungu, Precious Diana Indlovukazi, Collen Moyo, and Bheki Fuzane. It will travel around to different communities from Christmas Eve through New Year's Eve.

The schedule has shown moving to a new spot each day. It starts at Nyathi, then goes to Good Wood, Gonye Shopping Centre, Nyaje, Gwelutshena, Nkayi Centre, Tohwe, and finally wraps at Mpumelelo. The lineup is packed with acts from various styles. Gospel musician Collen Moyo and Maskandi artist Intombi Yabelungu will perform. Other names include The Melodius Psalms, Master Fan, Amagodonga Amahle, Precious Diana Indlovukazi, Mxola, Kusile Brothers, and Magwizi The Comedian. Also set to appear are Mkhalandoda Express, Mapotholes, Mchasisi Dube, Izwi Labapostoli Gospel Group, Iskhali Sensizwa, Mathi The Boiling Pot, Minister Phenius Mlotshwa, Tromp, King Yama2K, Pastor Elton, and Pastor P Nkundla.

Intombi Yabelungu said preparations are in the final stages, promising a hot event. She called it a seasonal gathering that does not turn any artist away. The goal is to bring music straight to the people while also working as a promotional stage for new and known performers. Besides the entertainment, the festival has a community focus. Part of its mission involves donating school supplies to vulnerable children in the area. Organizers have thanked local business owners and community leaders for their continued backing of the project.
