Nokia consumes HPE team for MantaRay SMO AI dominance

Nokia has acquired technology assets from HPE through a licensing agreement to enhance its artificial intelligence capabilities in radio access network automation. The deal strengthens Nokia's MantaRay Service Management and Orchestration platform, and expands its solutions for AI-driven RAN automation and autonomous networking. Nokia will access HPE's RAN Intelligent Controller and integrate it with MantaRay AI-Powered SMO and Network Automation assets. The associated development team transferred to Nokia Mobile Networks on Oct. 1, 2025.

MantaRay SMO provides advanced AI-driven automation and can achieve TM Forum's autonomous networks level 4. The platform supports multi-vendor network management and prepares operators for the transition from 5G to 6G networks. Nokia's solution complies with Open RAN standards and supports the open R1 interface for rApps. The enhanced capabilities will help customers manage networks more efficiently through improved automation and orchestration.
