Nomsa Dee shares her battle with a double cancer diagnosis

Bulawayo comedian Nomsa Diana Muleya survived breast cancer after months of severe pain that began with persistent itching in February of last year. The performer, known professionally as Nomsa Dee, delayed medical treatment until her breast ruptured at a pharmacy in May while she searched for pain medication.

Medical staff discovered cervical cancer cells one year after her initial screening, though subsequent tests showed no malignant cells remained in her womb. Her son relocated from South Africa to Zimbabwe after learning about the dual diagnosis. Muleya attributes her recovery to prayer support from family members and church congregants.

Breast cancer represents the second most prevalent cancer among Zimbabwean women after cervical cancer. Muleya advocates for timely screening through mobile clinics that offer free examinations across residential areas. October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month globally.
